Electrocardiographic study of Japanese B Encephalitis9Report of 50 caes)

Abstract
Electrocardiographic study was performed for 50 patients of J.B. encephalitis admitted to Chonnam Univrsity Hospital for the 2-year-period from September of 1961 to August of 1968.
Analysis was done for convenience, dividing them into two groups; in the A group BCG check was done within 10 days of initial symptoms, while in the B group it was carried out ofter 20 days of initial symptoms.
Followings were the results;
1. Total 50 cases consisted of 38 male and 12 femele, its ratio being 3.16:1.
2. No P wave abnormalities were observed.
3. The prolongatio of PR-interval was noted in 9 cases(18%) of the A group and in 12 cases(24%) of the B group.
4. Most of axis deviation of heart was to right, 12 cases(24%) and 7 cases (14%) in A and B group respectively, and one case(2%) of left axis deviation was present in each group.
5. The rotation of the heart was: 12 cases(24%) in the A group and 7 cases (14%) in the B group of clockwise rotation.
6. In the precordial lead of V_(1) QRS, 26 cases(52%) of Sr, 16cases(32%) of RS, 2 cases(4%) of Rs, and 6 cases(12%) of Rsr¢¥ in the A group, and 32 cases(64%) of rS, 12 cases(24%) of RS, 2 cases(4%) of Rs and 4cases (8%) of Rsr¢¥ in the B group, were obsereved.
7. No ST segment changes were observed.
8. Depression and flattening of T-wave were observed in 6 cases(12%) of the A group and in 15 cases(30%) of the B group.
9. Prolongation of QT-interval was noted in 7 cases(14%) of the A group and in 12 cases (24%) of the B group.
10. Extrasystole was not elicited.
11. Tachycardia was present in 11 cases(22%) of the A group and in 3 cases(6%) of the B group.
12. Bradycardia was present in 7 cases of the A group and in 14 cases(28%) of the B group.
13. Sinus arrhythmia was detected in 3 cases(6%) of the A group and in one cases(2%) of the B group.
14. Incomplete right bundle branch block was observed in 6 cases(12%) of the A group and in 4 cases(8%) of the B group.
15. One case(2%) of incomplete right bundle branch block was recognized in both A and B group.
